The Lone Ship Poem by Matthew Moser

The Lone Ship

Rating: 3.0

Around me,
Endless sea,
The cold biting wind,
Beckons only to rend,
Me asunder,
Send waves over me,
To send me under,
So that it will once again be,
Only endless sea.

For years I have traversed,
The dark black waters in which lurk,
A thousand vessels like me,
Claimed by the endless sea,
And yet, lonely as I may be,
I will not submit.

I have broken through waves,
Over my brother’s graves,
And head on,
All along,
Raging back at the sea,
You hold them.
But you will not claim me.
