The Love Of The Savior For A Sinner Like Me Poem by J. D. Martin

The Love Of The Savior For A Sinner Like Me

Love gave me welcome, yet my soul drew back,
I’m filthy, I’m dirty from sin
But tender-eyed Love, who knew my soul was black
Drew nearer and pulled me in.

Love embraced me and sang a song to me
He said he be all my needs.
“A saint” I replied “worthy to be here”
Love said you shall be he.

I the unkind, the ungrateful, a dog
No! I can never look onto thee.
Love grabbed my hands with a smile on his face
Who made the eyes but me?

True but my sin; it clings to my soul
Let my shame go where it deserves.
Know you not, love replied, who bore the blame
Now sit down and eat and taste my meat and be forever changed.
