The Mannerless Yellow Fever Woman Poem by CHIOMA ONYEKABA

The Mannerless Yellow Fever Woman

Kakpum! Kakpum! ! Kpum Kpum! ! !
Gbim! Gbim! ! Kakpum! ! !
Stars appeared in circles
As her head hit the floor in

Pardon her, pardon her!
Came the voices of onlookers
To the female soldier
Whose husband this yellow fever
Dared to have slapped

Leave me, Leave me!
Came the voice of the defaulting party
Held to the floor by a baton
After learning her lesson
Hoping it ends soon

Beat her, Beat her!
Came the voice of the man
Whose wife was the soldier
Who got slapped in anger
By the yellow fever woman

Laughter, Laugher!
Filled the air around her
From familiar onlookers
Who knew she was a disaster
Hoping she gets some manners
