The Old Man And The Tea Poem by DEEPAK KUMAR PATTANAYAK

The Old Man And The Tea

Rating: 5.0

When sun touches the morning
His dry lips stammer to say something
Hardly perceptible to the outer world
And hardly audible to near ones heart loved and revered

For some are fast asleep in their alabaster chambers since long
And some have deserted him that nobody knows when and how long
And who is there him to listen
None- - beside himself he is all alone

With livid face
And scarce able to wish
A cup of tea at day's sparkle
And at his behest emerges not a soul

So holding a stick in his hand
He propels his frail body and feeble mind
To a near-by stall to beat his ninety summers day
Of a morn so serene and Sunray
Just leaving his brow to live in his eyes
To venerate his day natal in grace and poise

With face now so beaming
And eyes so dancing
And from head to toe aglow he is all
With joy, delight and thrill

"Good morning to you, Sir"
Though we don't know each other
I feel honored to say you so
Please bear with my greeting with love and cares to

Oh! no my dear I am honored instead
When you wish me a morning so grand
I must bless you with my glorious age
That I am living with nowadays

Though long gone are the days of my youth
I travel miles and miles daily to stay full of youth
Along I see lush surroundings of green corn fields,
Beautiful landscapes, flowers, birds and trees
Above sunny skies and around is the fresh and fragrant air
That plays among boughs and under my nose from blossoms rare

To drop in home, joyous home lodged in a dust's corner
Where heaven and earth meet to make it holier
And where upon Day-spring ushers in the love for tea
That I share with my brothers, sisters and parent lovingly

I could all see and feel but for a while
Like a slumbering babe smiling at having a cup of tea at its will
For the route I take is very short and simple
Subtler even when I go and am back within eyes' twinkle

Then with a pause falling into a minute's silence time he decries
That has stolen his golden days and golden geese
Oh! No God, indebted I am instead forever to thee
For strengthening me to bear down pains of all outlived by me
Oh! My friend, if possible bring me sunshine in a cup of tea
So that nothing could prevent me from scoring a brilliant and
memorable century

COMMENTS OF THE POEM

I am fascinated and enthralled with the way you use words- you add depth and sensitivity and emotions and turn the verses into the motion and complexity of life moving right before our eyes. Your line says- - ] Oh! My friend, if possible bring me sunshine in a cup of tea. And that my dear friend is what you did for your readers with this most excellent poem! ! ! 10++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
