The Paschal Mystery
is Christ's work of
redemption
accomplished
principally by
his Passion,
death, Resurrection,
and glorious Ascension,
by which Jesus
passed from the
fallen world of sin
to the heavenly world
of the Father.
These four distinct
elements — suffering,
death, Resurrection,
and Ascension — are
the substantial reality
standing beneath
each of Easter's
sacramental signs
and symbols.
They are called "paschal"
because they form,
as it were, a bridge
by which Jesus and
those who belong to
Him cross over,
orpass over
to a new heaven
and a new earth
(see Rev.21: 1of the Holy Bible) .
