The People Poem by Peter Sugura

The People

Rating: 4.5

I've stood silently long enough,
glaring into an empty culture.
we are people that stand for everything,
but stick with nothing.
a hollow shell of a once great people,
now numbed by endless radio waves.
putting us in an endless coma,
living in a deluded society.
I idly stand by as I, and I alone,
point my finger at what was america.
all that is left, is 50 states,
gripping on to the age old motto:
'the greatest nation on the earth'
tell that to the millions homeless,
unemployed,
the hungry,
the men, women, and children of a crumbled nation.
Talk about our great nation,
tell that to me, it will be a good laugh.
until the shell collapses upon us
