The Proud Flag And Its Bearers Poem by Ruth Kamasungua

The Proud Flag And Its Bearers

The golden bird spreads its wings
And flies proudly
Against the crimson horizon
Like a lone flame dancing
In the wind
To the beat of time since
Independence
While its fellow compatriot comrades
The Southern Cross sisters
Shines brilliantly against the darkest night
Ringing freedom
To a country that has been spared bloodshed
In its pursuit to gain independence
Branding us its bearers, proud, free and jubilant
On our free and beautiful land of mountains,
Forests and untold natural resources
Causing us to sit on a pot of gold, gas and oil
Our exotic and unique cultures attracting
International interest in the areas of anthropology,
Tourism and Marinology
We stand proud and unique
Though we have untold problems affecting
Our shores and inland
We can hold hands together as one nation
With God at the helm of our ship
And together we can co-operate
With the Master
As He leads us
Into prosperity and success
