THE RAINBOW

O RAINBOW, WHAT THOU ART?

ART THOU THE BOW OF ANY OF GOD
AS I HEARED IN MY BOYHOOD DAYS,
THAT'S USED TO DISPERSE THE CLOUD
THAT COME AND FALL FROM HEAVEN WAYS?

OR, THOU ART THE REFRACTION FROM THE DROPS
THAT HANG IN WIND AFTER THE RAIN,
THROUGH WHICH THE SUN RAYS MAKE THEIR CROSS.
ANALYSE IT IN SOME HUE-RAYS MAIN?

O RAINBOW, WHAT THOU ART?
I KNOW NOT WHAT THOU ART?

poet Robert Browning

After
by Robert Browning

Take the cloak from his face, and at first
Let the corpse do its worst!

How he lies in his rights of a man!
Death has done all death can.
