The Reflection Poem by Pink Pixie

The Reflection

Rating: 0.5

The reflection in the mirror of a face I do not know,
With each day that passes my curiosity continues to grow.
A sadness so overwhelming, never a smile to be seen,
Her face tells a story of the places that she has been.
I wish that I could reach her and pull her through the thick glass,
The mirror stands between us, a barrier which neither can pass.
I reach out my hand to her perhaps offering a way out,
She doesn't move or say a word, 'Take it! ' I shout.
Her silence is almost deafening as it pierces through my ears,
I can only stare helplessly as my eyes begin to fill with tears.
Everyday I see her there staring back at me,
Everyday I see her, yet do I really truly see.
Today as I stood there looking deep into her eyes,
I saw the hurt and betrayal left from a lifetime of lies.
I felt a growing sadness burning deep down inside,
It was at that very moment that I suddenly realized.
The reflection in the mirror it is actually my own,
The glass it is the barrier separating me from the unknown.
Unable to shatter or break through to the other side,
A reflection in plain sight of all that I try to hide.
There is no escape from what is staring you right in the face,
You will find that reality and truth can be a very ugly place.
I turn out the light causing the reflection to finally fade,
Trapped forever in the darkness with all the mistakes that I have made.
