The Return Poem by Minsmif Poetry

The Return

It's dawn, ceiling fan breezes cool satin sheets, silhouetted birds dance upon window sills blanketed by shear curtains, intermittent sun beams sway to the rhythmic beats of silent gentle winds creeping through cracked windows. Morning eyes blurred, running parallel with hurtful memories of last night's fight. Picture frame stains and naked nail holes upon the bedroom wall act as subtle reminders of the seriousness of last night's actions. Visually surveying the room his eyes fall upon her beauty as she slumbers. Dried tears form horizontal lines across her face; indicative of how she cried herself to sleep. Her goodness is projected across the backdropp of his memory like a summer block buster. The way she loves him, sticks by him, cooks for him, encourages him, takes care of the kids in his absence, and presence. Working two jobs while he is laid off, never complaining even after he befriended……..the pipe. He brings his lips to her forehead and gently kisses her easing out of bed as not to awaken her, his knees fall upon the broken glass of thrown picture frames. He ignores the pain seeking the pleasure of HIS presence. He knew HIM once, but HE knew him always. Singing birds stifle themselves in reverence to the return of one soul, one mind one heart. The words "I surrender" are embedded in the lump in his throat…but God….reaches into his heart and extracts the sincerity of his cry out to HIM. HE breathes the breath of newness onto his being and welcomes him back with the unheard words of HIS spirit that says. "I love you son, I've been waiting for your return", and all of heaven begins to rejoice.
