The Smile In My Heart Poem by Ernest Elliot Daka

The Smile In My Heart

Rating: 5.0

The Smile In My Heart!

When you put a smile on the face of a fellow man
You'll have done good, but that smile is like a name on sand
The wind will blow it away; a shower of rain will wash it off!
And the human will revert to their old self, mayhap sad and tears!
For the smile was never in the heart but just a smile for show

For me, though, you've done well thus; in truth, better than well!
You've deep-etched the smiles in my heart, they stay forever
In my mind you've written the laughter indelibly, I laugh forever
The contours of my face have relaxed with happiness of youth
And I whistle a song of joy and laughter, I whistle a song of love

It is love to come and yet, as now I feel the love in me as I speak
The smile you put in me is true and the love I feel is sure to come
Thank you for being there when I wanted a friend to smile to me
Thank you for being you, the happy friend I needed and now I have
You are indeed a friend I need for you put a smile in me forever!

A tribute to Namwila! 15/12/14
