The Spark Poem by Keegan Cooke

The Spark

By myself I stand alone, a stone face among the old
The sadness overwhelms be, but no tears will roll
They are frozen inside of me by this unrelenting cold
I smell a rotting carcass, but find only my dead soul

The happiness I once knew, was nothing but an illusion
A lie designed my weak and foolish mind
My heart screams and claws from the confusion
But my soul is silenced by it's oppresive bind

A spark flashes, a glimpse of freedom from delusion
It ignites to a flame and soon rages inside
Burning away my false dreams and hidden corruption
Releasing me from the cage that my heart denies

It pushes me into the sky high above the heavens
Where I feel my strength begin to flourish and thrive
All darkness has fled and only the fire is left
Yet even so all good things must end

The sun goes down, and I see a new darkness begin to crest
It pushes and pulls harshly, forcing my heart to bend
I resist, but with a final blow the seemingly unbreakable breaks
Able to take no more, I fall limp to the ground

And with a last breath, utter one weak sound
Words that people search their whole lives to hear
They would give away everything to hear play in their ear
Words that can split empires in two

Words that can no one can ever undo
Those three words... I love you
