The Stand-Up Poet Poem by Alan Sandham

The Stand-Up Poet

Rating: 2.5

I stand before you
Clean and sober,

No doubt some of you already wishing
That it's over,

If that's true, bear with me
For some of my lines may be funny,
If you find them so,
Please give money,

Those who don't, and won't relent,
Should find that time in the bar
Is time well spent.

Yes, this sounds like something you might have read in front of an audience that was there to listen to some musicians, and not to you. I like it! You might like one of my recent poems, " Avoiding the Corona" .

Hi and welcome! Your poem seems to have a double meaning. I can't tell if you are clean and sober, or are you making fun of it. Sorry, I am so dense! You can message me Panagiota Romios In California...best wishes at Poem Hunter.

I have been invited to read by some musicians, and am gathering my courage. It can be a cruel business, especially for the audience.

Alan, Have you ever done stand up? I have the sense that you have...RSvP

This was written because I often feel that these events are like stand-up comedy, but less fun. Thanks very much for reading my work.
