The Step You Were On Poem by Edwina Reizer

The Step You Were On

One step at a time is a hard way to climb.
I'd rather skip a few.
But maybe among ones that I would skip
lies the one where I met you.

The climb's never easy, nor is it smooth
but when you look behind
all the ones where you stumbled
are the ones foremost in your mind.

The easy steps were forgotten so soon
for they slipped away quite fast.
But the step I took that you were on
is the step that will always last
in my memory.
