The Storm Poem by Jacqueline Dougherty

The Storm

I am surrounded by stormy clouds
under an immense black sky.
Where I am I don't know
and I desperately want to know why.
I can see the instant flash of light
nearby and await the following sound.
Soon a large crack is heard
and this storm starts to surround.
As I stand here wondering
why am I in the middle of this.
The rain starts to come as sad as tears
upon my face, but what did I miss?
Something caused this storm
for the wind is so cold and strong.
I am beginning to believe
that maybe, just maybe, I did something wrong.
Thoughts knock me to the ground
but I am so lost in the torrents and gust.
I fight so hard to stand and search the dark
because a just solution is a necessary must!
Its too dark and windy to see ahead,
for the answer is near! It's close to my hand!
With all my ambition I stride on
in the powerful wind I strongly stand!
I grab and end this terrifying storm at last
and soon the sunlight is creeping through.
I look and feel the last tearful dropp of rain
as the clouds go and the sky becomes blue.
No more thunder to shake the earth,
this storm has gracefully ended.
Sunlight has filled this now beautiful day
as a rainbow in the sky is suspended
high above me, I smile and greet the warmth
with open arms toward the skies....
