The Trail Of Mzilikazi Poem by Thabani Khumalo

The Trail Of Mzilikazi

The trail of Mzilikazi is the one that is hard to follow
because it is chaotically dangerous and deadly,
but the trail of Tman Kiry is simply having to understand its rudimentary.

I am flashing back into a history
of coming from inside muddy houses
and country boys attempting survival in the city:
juvenile ambitions of trying to win the bread for family;
that city boy sticking me into a truant inclined deeper murk.
I'm the one that climbed the height,
I'm the one that took the fall -
the sins my bad friends have made me commit,
fighting Shikinisha.
