The Truth Revealed (Her Eyes Tell The Story) Poem by Elizabeth Sheaffer

The Truth Revealed (Her Eyes Tell The Story)

I look in the mirror, eyes transfixed upon a haggard face I don't even recognize...
Deep circles have formed from nights of sleeplessness, something the make-up can't disguise...
Ruddy cheeks show the weariness of the day's travels, as a tongue flickers across parched lips...
Nothing can transform the dull, blank stare, not even memory of his kiss...
Despite efforts to maintain hygiene, acne still mars the pale skin...
The eyes are the deepest, displaying all the emotions locked within...
The eyelids droop, accentuating the exhaustion evident here...
But this exhaustion is much more than physical, and she can feel that tears are near...
