The Truth Will Set You Free Poem by Francis Duggan

The Truth Will Set You Free

From lying your soul is in spiritual poverty
But the truth though hard to say will surely set you free
Of any sense of guilt you may possess
And lead you on the road to happiness,
So many people in their old age lie
And they live their falsehoods till the day they die
So many their own lies grow to believe
And to them it does come easy to deceive,
The wife lies to her husband the husband lies to his wife
To some deception becomes part of life
And though it separates the strong one from the weak
The truth can be the hardest thing to speak
And the truth it will bring honour to your name
For the truth will set you free of guilt and of shame.
