__________
This is a tale about those who seem meek—
The ones who may worry they may be too weak.
They are all a bit scared in one way or the other,
As each has been paired with— is pursued by another.
__________
This story begins with the littlest guy.
He’s here with his buddies. He’s our pal, Mr. Fly.
He’s all about buzzing and he’s no time for naps,
For he’s afraid of… Bully Frog and his tongue when it zaps!
__________
Barely much bigger, maybe smaller— not lots,
Is a bug of much beauty— bright red with black dots.
Lady Bug is all flush, and is blushing in fits,
‘Cause… Old Crone Miss Spider knits more than mitts where she sits
__________
Higher up in the apple that falls from the tree
Dwells another poor fella’— His “Highness”, Lord von Wormy
Right now he’s just munching— content in his fruit,
But…Bad Bird wants lunching and sees him as food.
__________
All these creatures are tiny. It’s tough. There’s no doubt.
But even Sir Mouse must beware when about.
He’d better watch out— See… Creepy Cat isn’t sleepin’.
He’s preppin’ to pounce, with that one eye a’peepin’.
__________
Perhaps these two geese here don’t have it so bad.
Oh no! But they're huddling so close and so sad.
Warding danger, on their guard—poor Gramps ‘n’ Gramma Goose.
They fear… the stranger in the yard. It’s Dread Fox on the loose.
__________
Surely, a sheep can find peace, some rest, maybe sleep,
With her soft and rosy coat and her pretty pinkish cheeks.
Nope. Not even Mrs. Lamb is free from such worries.
When…Growl Wolf bears his fangs, Oh, how her heart hurries.
__________
Even those under water are not spared of such threat.
Friendly Fish keeps eyes pealed, glaring this way and that
Making sure that… Nosy Pelican won't dive-down through the wet
With his terrible bills snatching him up like a net.
__________
But what if they teamed up and all got together—
Combining their strengths of hoof, claw, fin and feather?
Now, would that not be something incredible to behold?
Why, maybe the story would need be retold.
