The Wall Poem by Kellsey Hartmann

The Wall

A girl on a trip
with the rest of her class
to some, just another museum
to her, her family's past

Going through the exhibits
her face flushed with excitement
an odd connection to this wall
of those who ended their confinement

looking over the names
and her finger shoots out
her eyes fill with tears
too many emotions to count

there on this wall,
among the names of rescuers,
one simple man's name
no one powerful, not an adventurer

her great-grandfather's name
though he's ten years past
part of an amazing story
told at last!

pride fills her up
but she has nothing to say
this one simple thing...
she will never forget this day
