The Woods By My House Poem by Jodie Pemberton

The Woods By My House

In the woods by my house
You took my hand
And lead me to the lake
Where we leaned on the wooden fence
That had grown pale
With age.
There was a chill in the air
And gusts of wind that would blow down the hood of your coat
To run its fingers through your hair
The way I so often did.
I thought it odd to be there
Even though the cold sun had begun to sink
In what should have been
A glorious sunset on the water
Which merely appeared grey
And void.
I looked to you and realized
How perfect it was
Through the smile you wore.
