There's No Way Back Poem by Mal Sharp

There's No Way Back

How to undo what has been done,
Turn back the clock and start again,
Go back to where it all begun,
To stop it going down the drain.

But then it doesn't work that way,
There is no magic to reveal,
No special button to replay,
No underhanded demon deal.

We get what we get, no return,
A life of sorrow and regret,
A chance for us to grow and learn,
A chance for us to pay our debt.

There's no way back, but even so,
We have one life, so live it well,
Do not surrender do not bow,
Don't leave behind an empty shell.

Forgive yourselves, but don't forget,
No one's perfect, mistakes are made,
No need to worry or to fret,
The guilt you feel will someday fade.
