There Was Nothing More Poem by Daniel Wittfoth

There Was Nothing More

It was suppose to be
just another story
a bunch of words

It started out in a raging storm
two hearts breaking like thunder
Found him face down in the kitchen
empty pill bottles scattered on the floor
She had just spoken to him
not more than a couple hours ago
Never saw it coming
never heard it in his voice

How did it ever get that far
she never meant to destroy him
it wasn't her intent
She knew it would hurt
but nothing was really set in stone
How did it ever get that far
for him to believe
there was nothing more

Did it all seem lost, without hope
did the words get mixed up
written down wrong

There was so much more to him
than what he left behind
Did he somehow forget
sometimes even love can be found again
And she recalls those moments
trying to figure out
if there was anything she missed
Did she misunderstand his intentions
of just learning to go on

How did it ever get that far
she never meant to destroy him
it wasn't her intent
She knew it would hurt
but nothing was really set in stone
How did it ever get that far
for him to believe
there was nothing more...
