There Was Once A Young Woman With So Many Children Poem by Katherine Perry

There was once a young woman
Who did not live in a shoe
And she had so many children
That she did know what to do

She kept them dressed
She kept them fed
She let them play
And jump on their beds

They could laugh
And they could sing
But they couldn't talk back
Or they would get a stare so
mean

The mother had long hair
Strawberry blonde and curly
too
Her skin was soft and fair
And wore weights on her shoes

For she liked to work out
Always trying to stay in shape
But her kids would never pout
Because they got to go with her
and stay up late

Mom took kids on critter hunts
quite often
From different parks to hunts in
their own back yard
She showed them how to respect
and love animals, their hearts
quickly softened
So much that losing a pet, made
it very hard

She tried hard to take care of
things
But sometimes it got to be almost
impossible
With the laundry and so many things
to clean
It was clear she needed help, which
seemed logical

But somehow for awhile she did it all
And told them how much she loved them
every day
And when the evening would fall
They all went to bed on a pallet in
the living room where they would play

For they loved camping out with mom
on the floor
And mom even loved it too
Just one big happy family with room
for one or two more
For there were never too many or too
few

Today she wishes she would have done
some things differently
But if she would have, they wouldn't
be who they are today
And even though they sometimes drove
her crazy mentally
The amount of love she has for them
could not be measured in any way!
