Thirst Poem by Weldon Davis

Thirst

Rating: 5.0

I have a new thirst today
A thirst for understanding
A thirst for acceptance

For so long
I quenched my thirst
In self reliance
In solitude

I've had my share of drinking 'buddies'
Over the years
Funny thing was
After the drinks were gone
So were my friends...

My problems remained
I was parched
Wondering what does it all mean?
-And-
How do I change? ...
When this hurt feels so familiar
When this pain is all I've ever known!

I have a new thirst today
For compassion and empathy
Cause I know it's not all about me
It's bigger than that
The decisions I make
Not only effect my life-
They impact others as well...

I have a new thirst today
To be conscious of my decisions
To be the kind of person
Who can always keep their head held high
To be the kind of person
All my friends and family
Can depend on
