This Is Me Poem by Collette Y Anderson Williams

This Is Me

This is me -
wide, thick lips
curly, black hair
are signatures
of my bloodline.

This is me -
My heart
I often wear
on my sleeve
but sometimes conceal.

This is me -
I love completely,
deeply -
so unreservedly
to show you
how much I care.

This is me -
my words are true,
my actions are pure
so be assured
there's no hidden agenda.

This is me -
the introvert,
the empath,
the highly sensitive one,
the terribly misunderstood one.

This is me -
I smile
when my heart aches,
and sometimes I hide
when my heart breaks.

This is me -
a genuine friend and confidante,
a sister,
a cousin,
a mother
and, certainly,
someone's daughter.

Yes, this is me -
wrinkles, warts,
freckles,
diastema
and pregnant with flaws.
