This Time Poem by Rowan Truebody

This Time

So long ago, you entered my world
Told me to fly and look up at the stars
I laughed, I said that all was fine
But I was lying – you read my mind

You made me think, and made me see
No-one was more important than me
I fell for you, so hard and fast
Why didn’t I know, it couldn’t last?

You made me laugh, you made me cry
Promised forever, you’d always be mine
But in the end, you walked away
You said goodbye, I thought I’d die

But I found strength down deep inside
Picked myself up, got on with my life
Started again, made some new friends
Thought I’d won, it would never end

But then it all crumbled, became just like dust
My loyalty tested, my hopes again crushed

And now once again, you’ve knocked on my door
If you’re not staying, what was it for
You’re reading my mind but not my heart
If it’s ending again, why did it re-start?

So here’s the truth, and it’s the same as it was
You’re my sun, my moon, my stars and my world
So if this time again, it isn’t for keeps,
It’s just for fun, a game you can play
Don’t call me again, just stay away.
