Throwing Out, Out Of Love Poem by Jayatissa K. Liyanage

Throwing Out, Out Of Love

Rating: 5.0

A five storied building, it was in the most revered city
highly populated, in the middle of the country
Ramaraja's abode on the topmost level of the tower
was a fondly nest of three kids, nursed by mom and dad

In the coldest early morning of eighth of January
it was a catastrophe, that they were thrown in to
Just as the sun was rising above the eastern hill top
who would expecttheir abode be in sudden ablaze

Flames being most impetuous furious 'n boisterous
encircled five lives at the least expected hour
devouring every combustible matter therein
left only the windows and sky opened for them

Everyone being panicked helpless, yet relentless
trying to run for one's own life, but how and where to?
Fire fighters not at the site yet, but freaked crowds are
attempting whatever they couldfrom five stories down

Flames getting nearer and nearer, threatening five lives
heat boiling their blood, smoke choking up lungs
Yet no divine force seems appearing for their rescue
amidst screams of kids and wife, father had no choice

Mundane human senses in the face of inevitable death
left him with the only choice, to throw each out of windows
Hoping some force, heavenly or earthly would catch them up
for, it was a question of life or death of either burn or fall

Frantic kids in pain and fear, refuse being thrown out
father had no choice, however much it seemed unkind
In tears and torn heart, still in braveries he throws out
five lives, in flesh and blood, his sole treasure on earth

He did not look below, lest he gets late for others
after the fourth, he threw himself out from same opening
found at last, all held unharmed in arms of human hearts
Alive, hugged and nestled, as flames up there still rumble
