Thoughts Of A Child Poem by Jayatissa K. Liyanage

Thoughts Of A Child

Like a bird, if I too can have a pair of wings
I shall swiftly fly a round, right around the globe
One day, flying sneakily from my buddies
I’ll yell at them, covering myself behind stars

Fluttering wings, I reach moon close enough to touch
and caress with my fingers, soft lunar face gently
Returning home hastily, without wiping the hand
I shall then touch my mom’s rose face, in her sleep

Flying whole night through flowery astral garden
Pick two glistening stars, to gild my sister’s ears
Enabling my Dad to return home, quickly, hereafter
I shall fix my wings, finally on my Dad’s shoulders

These thoughts are quite natural for a child..... Even grown ups long to have wings! Enjoyed this sweet poem written for your grandson from the child's perspective!
