Time Flies Poem by Rebecca Cox

Time Flies

As these few small fleeting hours, melt into the past,
I look over my shoulder, and wish these times could last.
As I grow older every passing second,
I know when I look back again; my past to me will beckon.
I know I’ll miss this and I know I’ll try to hold on to these times,
However we, as humans, can never draw the line.
To push forward, only to look back again,
Lessons learned in the past always lurk within.
Deep inside the heart and mind,
Memories linger silently, several different kinds.
All there to help and guide,
Throughout this painful life, teaching us not to hide.
Either to hide in shadow, or step into the light,
To cower in fear, or to stand and fight,
To fly or flee, we always have the choice,
But for the time being, every day of life we should rejoice.
Every breath given, and every day a gift,
Take these words to your heart and feel your spirit lift.
Time changes everything and life must go on,
Every dusk shall die, giving birth to another dawn.
But that day comes to pass as well,
Turning into a memory, with the others that dwell.
Some forgotten, some quite new,
Mixing with others perfectly, no matter what the hue.
Some marble white, others black and gray,
While more, still, is just another day…
