Time Spent Poem by Regan Roberts

Time Spent

My heart skips a beat
My time here is done
Eagerly I prepare to leave
Before the setting sun

I look up the road
Nothing lies ahead
I can't wait to get home
And sleep in my own bed

The journey does feel long
But I know what's at the end
With God speed I press on
Like I never will again

A day like no other
I'm coming home, mother

The message arrives
I'm on the road once again
Comes as a lethal suprise
But do I feel the pain?

I hope for good speed
I hope for a clear path
It's a dire time of need
I fear I'll never hear your laugh

I find you laying there
Deep eternal sleep
Though machines may give you air
You'll never hear me weep

As silence ensues
Nothing I can do

I must leave your side
Others await my return
You'll never breathe again they decide
But I wasn't suprised to learn

We bid you farewell
Send you on your way
Be free now from this Hell
Now I count down these long days

Time say that I have to leave
And against my will I go
I depart with the deepest grief
Spent is my time at home

This is a very emotional poem! The poet completely captures the sad mood! I particularly like the lines, 'Though machines give you air, you will never hear me weep..' How moving is that! Well done 10/10
