Time Stood Still Poem by Olivia Slemmermann

Time Stood Still

Fragrant nutmeg and acorns
Gold dust and sweet corn
Emerald and sapphire blooms
Where have they all gone

But over the blue horizon
There’s a field of azure green
Shimmering in the glorious sunrise
Auguring the brilliance of dawn

I’ll walk beside the lake so calm
To find a place to rest upon
Under a great tree I pause
To watch a splendorous sight
Of absolute great delight

Twirling and frolicking
In the dappled light
Ceaseless flocks come forth
Across a clear blue sky in flight

Swooping down upon the vale
On nature’s breast to repast they may
They nest and nurture for a season
Upon the turkey fig and sweet bay

I gaze for a moment longer
Curious of the mellow fields of hay
And cows in the meadows
Lazily a graze throughout the day

Myriad colours surround sublime
With ribbons of clouds above
Burst from the golden sunshine
Snow white wisteria and pine

I sit beside the lake and wonder
At the changing colour of water
Tumbling through sunlight glimmer
Illumining trees in virtual glitter

Thru their tumbling leaves
With pale green sheaths surrounds
Hours run by in serene wonder
Soon it is the dusk of night

Moon beams scatter
Through the twilight
The bird song fades away
Don’t sleep my little one arise
Tomorrow is another day
