To First Know What It Is Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

To First Know What It Is

To first know what it is kept,
Valued and worthy to praise.

Money stashed has no warmth from it to comfort.
Material possessions can not prevent heartbreak.
Nor does anyone hospitalized clinging to life,
Wonders aloud about desiring to hear...
The latest rumors to be gossiped.
And few amongst the many who remain destitute,
Seem reluctant to be interviewed...
About their thoughts about which stocks and bonds,
Are better than others in which to invest.

What is there left?

The needless exchange of ongoing pettiness.
And pointless requests made to God from the mouths,
Of those exposing their faked religious faith.
With it hoped that God would assist to eliminate,
Their fears and insecurities that begin...
Escalating conflicts to start nonending wars.
And pray they do,
With routine self indulgence...
That if God only provides for them,
Another victorious notable win.
Again they can begin to feel,
The rulers over the World.
As God had intended it meant.
And that the stars align,
With a sign from the heavens above,
Depicting which group God picks...
To control who lives to fulfill their destinies.
First.
To know what it is to command and rule.
