To The One Who Understands Poem by Leonard Dantzler

To The One Who Understands

And through the darkness we emerge
Neither broken more then the other, but all the same we are broken
Mirror, mirror my very thoughts
Our intellect is one unparalleled
Even though previous lovers sung lullabies of lies
We still manage to sing with our vocals strained
I miss the smell that lingered like a butterfly to the breeze on my jacket
I'd give nearly anything now just to have it
Because the one who wore the scent knows me, the me
I hide behind these words and it seems she's pulled the curtain back
But not light for me, darkness suits me us so much better
I was only an eye seeing the world as a half
Thank you for being the right to my wrong left
I believe that it is heartbreak that keeps us on this level of understanding with one another
I chased dreams only to have failure grab my ankles
Your dark soul makes my heart whole
My black heart brings your mind to life
