Toad Poem by jerry hughes

Toad

Rating: 5.0

Poor toad.
You carry such
a load of ugliness.
A gash for a mouth,
big bulging eyes,
a fat, round body.
It doesn't surprise
when people wince.
But in your dreams,
poor toad, you'll
always be a prince.

What a gem this is to read aloud Jerry - - the structure is just right, and the observational element is spot on.... humour wrapped around a few wistful lines is so rare.... and yes, I agree that to us he is a 'poor toad' but wow - to his adoring mate he is a hunk of mighty desire at the right time of year eh? ? ? I loved this one..... greetings from Fay in Cornwall U.K. xx

'Poor toad' - you evoke such sympathy, I feel a kiss coming on! I like the alliteration and internal rhyme; it paints a vivid picture. S :)

How wonderful - an ode to a toad! Light and fanciful write, Jerry. Not your usual style, but a nice change of pace. I love it! Linda :)
