Today In Galilee Poem by Olalekan Ololade Sobande

Today In Galilee

Wine comes in at the mouth
And love comes in at the eye
that's all we shall know for truth
for he has warned them at the last supper

he lift the glass to their mouths
he look at them and sign
'Judas, be not amazed'
'for I have made my song a coat'

'let me die a youngman's death'
'out of old mythologies'
'from heel to throat; '
but the fools caught it,
wore it in the world's eyes
as though they'd wrought it.

'Judas, please be not amazed'
'for it has been written'
'I shall be mown down at dawn'
'let me die a youngman's death'

'that's a fee'
'and a free from sin'
he told them for the last time.

The Jews forgot their history
forgot its origin
they became drunk with prosperity!

And in their giddiness
they dare to send their army
against Jesus! Imagine it!

'I am going to teach you a lesson
one that you'll never forget'
he picked on a man
whose ear was cut off
and put it back to its joint

walked his way between the clittering rows
'first come, first served' he decleared
'fingers, feet or toes? '
'of course, you may now take me'

and they had nailed the boards above his face
wondering to nail him in that solitute,
and raised above his mound
a cross they had made out of two bits of wood,
and left him to the indiffernt stars above.

Oh, I was the Abraham
Sacrificing my Isaac
Waiting in vain for the ram in the thicket
Robed Iscariot, the judas jettisoned.

'why do you seek the living among death? '
Remember how he told you
while he was still in Galilee
we had hoped that he was the one to redeem Israel.
