Today's Treasure Is Tomorrow's Trash Poem by Paula Glynn

Today's Treasure Is Tomorrow's Trash

Rating: 5.0

Today's treasure is tomorrow's trash
Where we flash our cash
The material world
Adding allure for every boy and girl

We spend money
Like it's going out of fashion
The people in our fast world never trash
For they also flash their hard earned cash

The other half dreams trashed
And nastily trampled on
The world of impossible money
A web the bullies spin

Cruel and cold
Today's hero spat on
Crying alone
Finding it hard to face others and be strong

Materials of yesterday
To be put in the trash can
Memories of CDs and music videos
Having once adored the rich and famous

But now knowing the world stone
Those CDs and DVDs in the trash can
False promises and claims
To trick the person into wanting fame

But everything has changed
And nothing ever stays the same
For torture kills
Those mistakenly wanting fame

The living room empty of light
Everything packed up
Even the carpet lifted up
Memories remenents echoing pain

A new home with new treasure
Old CDs gone DVDs disappeared
Boyband posters torn down
Friends graduated and soon leaving town

Again everything must go
Everything needing a dust
Piles and piles of rubbish bags
Left in the trash can outside

And I need no materials
Because I have self respect and pride
Materials irrelevant in my life
For I am happily the minimalist.

Loved this beautiful poem, of which the title says it all! A poem's title tells something about the poet, how much s/he cares for the nuances and the deeper meanings. You have done excellent on that count. The poem gets maximum from me- 5*****.
