This man who lies
Here today
On the staircase,
His face
covered, half dead, half alive,
A victim of years
Of abuse,
Neglect and addiction to drugs,
Temporarily unburdened of pain,
Why is he here?
Why isn't he where he ought to be,
With his family,
On a bed, under a roof?
I asked myself these questions today,
As if I, a helpless
victim of circumstances herself,
Had the answers,
Or the power to change things.
poem is not it...something more..beyond the aesthetic pleasure it hits to our heart directly to discuss of him on humanitarian attitudes...

There are so many people who have been addicts to drugs driven by their cravings or forced by their circumstances to seek an escape from realities. Quite often such victims are disowned by their families. The questions raised by the poem mostly remain unanswered. Very poignant. Thank you, Jasbir ji, for sharing the poem.

The social and economic decay of drug addiction are aptly captured in the poem. A disturbingly sad story insightfully narrated. Thanks for sharing.
