' Trees Were My Childhood Friends ' Says Bri... [ Plants In My New S. C. Home May Drive Me Nuts ]

Rating: 4.3

Trees were my childhood friends (along with neighbor, Helen) .
Now trees, and other South Carolina plants, have me YELLIN'.
Oh, it may not be outloud-yelling; I keep some feelings inside,
But, my displeasure with some plants here, I'll not from you hide.

In my youth I wandered fields and woods. I loved climbing trees.
It was especially nice near a tree's top, esp. with a stiff breeze.
And trees were home to my other friends, known to us as birds.
It would be hard to express my lifetime-link to them just in words.

The trees here are nice to look at, and offe...r welcome shade,
but, in exchange for such niceties, this guy, Bri, has dearly paid.
This house is built on a sloping hillside, inside two acres of trees.
[ Having front AND back driveways helps put my mind at ease...

as there's less chance we'll be 'roadblocked', by a tree that fell. ]
But if you had to clear Fall's fallen leaves, YOU might yell: 'Hell! '.
I CAN push them off the long lower drive, but only on one side.
The other side is up against a 'wall' of dirt, a wall I do deride.

In the Spring, pollen and other detritus covers car's wind-shield,
coming from nearby trees and other plants. 'They' will not yield
....to us humans who HAVE invaded their remote sanctuary.
Maybe that's why they, in response, try to, our car, ...BURY!

And....there are the here-and-there poison ivy growths, and
various plants bearing needles or claws, which bring oaths...
to me when I try to KILL them or at least avoid their grasps.
It may well be plants that kill ME. 'You win, plants' MAY be....
MY LAST gasp.

p.s. If I had my way, I might have the land bulldozed and paved with concrete, but my wife, the 'plant-lover', would probably plant ME! ! !

COMMENTS OF THE POEM
Dr Dillip K Swain 15 August 2022

Who are you why are biased with liars of my state? Why do you always trouble me through absurd anonymous comments? Can't you live without my state people who are liars and conspirators?

I THINK EITHER DILLIP WAS IN A MENTAL CRISIS OR SOMEONE WAS IMPERSONATING HIM.....or....AT OTHER TIMES WHEN HE IS 'NICE' HE IS BEING IMPERSONATED! ! ? ? ?

Despite my efforts, and without going nuts (not nut trees) , I cannot remove 'poems' and 'poem' from the 'hashtags'. PH keeps putting them there; I didn't.

I think PH automatically puts those on every poem.

There might be disadvantages of trees but it will never surpass the benefits that humanity could derive from them.

It is always great to have trees around. They purify our air and combat climate change, provide housing to millions of species and of course, a protection against floods.
