Troy (1989) Poem by Jodie Phillips

Troy (1989)

I needed to be needed, babe,
I wish that you could see.
I needed to be needed
Yet I needed to be free.

I'm not sure how to tell you
How I really feel tonight
The words are rushing through me
They just won't come out right.

I used you as an easy out,
for I had to get away.
I didn't see it that way then,
but I know the truth today.

When I said I'd marry you,
I needed some one's love.
I thought you really loved me,
that God sent you from above.

At one time I thought I loved you,
and maybe I still do,
But after everything you've said and done,
m faith can't be in you.

I don't want you to tell me
That your love for her is past,
You know as well as I do
That that love is going to last.

An end will have to come,
Our 'love' will have to cease.
From myself my needs are many,
From you my need is peace.

I needed to be needed,
I wish that you could see
I needed to be needed
I need now to be free.
