Tucked In The Sun Poem by John Davie

Tucked In The Sun

Rating: 3.0

I tucked the sun into bed tonight
Read it a story and turned out the light
With one hand of mine and the hand of my son
We said goodnight and we passed the sun on

My daughter was with me as the lights flickered out
This is it, it's right now, no shadow of doubt
Our warmth, hearts & kindness burned bright on dark skies
Washing over our souls, flooding into our eyes

We tucked the sun into bed tonight
Read it a story and turned out the light
My children beside me, we helped it along
Shed a tear, shared a laugh and sang it a song

Although deep down I knew that it had to be done
I was going to miss not having the sun along
So I saved just one ray in an oyster shell
Tied it up tight and attached a gold bell

Each time we got lost, or were feeling afraid
We would know in our shell was some light of pure day
Just enough to help Navigate, help find our way
To keep up our spirits, to keep darkness at bay

They tucked me into my bed tonight,
Read me a story and turned out the light
Thanked me and loved me and made Me So Proud,
Thanked me for doing away with the Clouds

A definite feel-good poem of intimate home life and family. Beautiful in its inspiration and colour.
