Tuesday Night Poem by Rick Elpers

Tuesday Night

A brief respite from
Emptiness filled my belly
Coated my heart
Smiling about gratitude
Made happy dogs
Then the solitaire came
Slowly crept hole-ness
Gapping struggling
For equilibrium between
Your new life and mine
Where I loose and you win
Dieing to know fearing
Happiness and evolvement
That I have yet to accomplish
And can only hope
Whereas you can live freely
Openly proudly displaying
To your world that which
We could not
And I rest to sleep tonight
Dreaming yet a life not lived
But for a moment with you
Fleeting and gone
Oh to know true love
That you now perhaps reside
Where only days ago
I pondered possibilities
Unimagined
And threw it away
Like the waste after dinner
Digested fed nurtured
And looking again to new food
Not holding but for a moment
And finished
Now I lay down to sleep
Forever lost
Amid the forest of aloneness
Treeless and barren
Blinded by the shadows
We have created
With the towering aspirations
Now abandoned
Left  my emotions to navigate
our graveyard of dreams
