Ukraine- Russia War- Time To respect And Value Humanity Poem by Bernedita Rosinha Pinto

Ukraine- Russia War- Time To respect And Value Humanity

As innocent people keep losing lives
how can atrocious enemy feel jubilant?
is this humanity - my reflex asks
or is this cruelty that my eyes see
as my ears hear of deaths and pain
as suddenly twenty cruise missiles
and two drones blast those cities of Ukraine
killing innocent people and children
who have no reasons nor crimes
who have no sins or punishments
on their hands to answer for
yet they faced such a deadly end.

They never guessed nor anticipated
they never imagined that in their own country
they would die so mercilessly;
as those missiles kept falling
and destroying their homes
which were their own shelters of peace;
and now deep in the ground
under the debris of their own buildings
they sleep in eternal depth.

O' Russia, what is life's worth
if in this fight and plight
innocent people will die
and face such uncertainty and crime
where lives are lost for no worthy cause
but just for the advancement of war
as destruction and devastation so vast
occurs every time a missile strikes;
Is this to prove that might is right
in those hands of power which are so blunt;
while those who are left to defend the war
remain helpless and restless like patients
in a hospital-ward waiting to get home?

O Russia, what is thy gain
and what is thy valor in all that occurs,
if pain and anguish is what you impose
upon innocent people?
With ceaseless damage and debris,
with endless grieve and injuries,
with neighborhoods looking like graveyards,
how does war justify such jeopardy?
But a war is a war by all its name
and only a mind of compassion
can choose to stop such devastation
which brings no honor nor justice.
