Umbilical Obligation Poem by Njabulo felix Mqwathi

Umbilical Obligation

Rating: 5.0

As mother extended her jaws and let loose my umbilical cord, she let go her anguish as her soul echoed through those concrete walls. Limited in movement, limited in speech, limited in size...I just lay there helpless, couldn't really find a way to dry her eyes. My ears were like a mop, absorbing every ounce of agony but my response was nothing but an endless cry. It's been two decades now but those memories still vociferate immensely. They still haunt my sleep, still cripple my walk and still disturb my speech. My heart still bleeds, my soul still grieves I'm just shameful of my deeds. Njabulo_I was born to bring about joy but it's like my dreams suffer from severe epilepsy I always fall short. I'm never giving up though one day I hope to walk tall, make mother proud of her only son, shoot down those clouds with my poetic gun, let it rain success and let these hardships drown. To me the only queen to whom I'd ever bow down and it's no pun when I say mother to me you're second to none! !
