Unanswerable Questions Poem by Minnie Gehrig

Unanswerable Questions

we are in the kitchen,
Me with gritted teeth chain smoking,
Waiting for the string of unanswerable questions i know lie behind those troubled eyes
They are so dark with grief and fear that they are black and your brown skin is paling beneth them,
You are telling me that i brought you to this place,
carried you here and left you, that I wont look back, and even if I did You say I can no longer see,
that my heart is cold, and knows no sorrow,
You say that is why you cant stop loving me,

and mabey you are right, since I sit there and say nothing,
I have no desire to argue loves reasons,
why it comes and where it goes,
I am cold, and quiet
though my silence is screaming,
because itd true evrey word,
tracing my face and defining me,

You creep up to me slowly like a cat
n look so deep into my eyes i fear you are drowning
your tears running down my forhead and cheecks
like the blood of the mesiah
and I feel bad but I cannot find a single tear for you,
so feeling guilty I do not wipe yours but,

I want to lay in the shadows for awhile,
I dont know what to say
you ask why,
N I laugh
Tell you mabey im crazy
Not caring why because the moment has passed
and a new sun finds me,
so I lose myself in that
Because it does not ask questions!
