Under Upturned Noses Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Under Upturned Noses

A regret to have it felt,
Seems often to come to feel...
After refusing to listen,
To someone others say...
Not to pay attention to anyone,
Who lives and dresses...
As if not seeking to impress.
Like many choose to do this.
With their pretensions kept.
Expected forever accepted.

'I should have listened.
And taken your advice.
But I was made convinced,
Your advice to give...
Was without experience.
And if you had it,
It would be flaunted.'

-And...
Why the long face.
You look as if,
Disappointed.
What happened? -

'I was told,
You didn't know anything.
And listening to you,
Would be a mistake.
A waste of my time.'

-By who? -

'The ones now wishing,
I had ignored them.
And kept their mouths closed.
To later tell me,
They didn't know everything.
About you or anyone else.'

-I told you that,
When you asked for my advice.
Well...
At least that to experience,
Taught you a lesson.-

'What lesson? '

-Anyone who tells you,
Not to pay attention...
Done to listen to anyone else,
Is that same one...
Wanting to know too late,
What is happening.
Right under,
Their upturned noses! -
