United We Stand Poem by Kathryn Brookins

United We Stand

There is talk of cleaning up the Earth,
but we seem to start in other countries first.
Homeless people crowd our streets,
Parents with their children, no food to eat.
We have more homes then we need,
yet more, and more are being built out of greed.
The Earth is being depleted of materials every day,
Surely there is a better way.
We have enough homes to shelter every soul,
Yet we have homeless, can you say ultimate control?
We have enough food to feed every mouth,
But we have starving people in the north as well as the south.
Prices keep going up, but wages stay the same,
Many are out of work, this country is in shame.
There is no reason for things in this life to be as they are,
people have suffered enough, their minds hold the scars.
Crime is up at a very real high,
everyday, more and more people die.
Our children are out of control,
parents have lost their strong hold.
These problems have slowly been making there way,
Why have we allowed this to happen without a word to say?
I have concern for the days ahead of us, truth that will be known,
will we be able to handle the things we are shown?
United we stand, divided we fall?
United we fall, if we say nothing at all.
