Unopened Poem by Romesh De Silva

Unopened

The water shimmers under weathered skies
My own thoughts are my demise
My eyes are half closed, lashes glisten back to front, structurally poised
Feet to one side, muscles twitching
Euphoric sound high pitching
Flowers at full bloom
I am a half opened gift
Unwanted, from house to house I shift
I am lost, hiding in the corner so dark
Entombed in a box wrapped in skin
Sealed and labelled. To: Me, From: Life’s dream
I am used, past on, severely abused
23 years old, my colour fading, dust gathering upon my head
Thoughts of death written with my frown, emotion read
One way, homeward bound, rip open my skin, see the gift which resides within, a beautiful mind, A light, a picture, a space, so divine
Tear stained hands dreaming of life out of the box
My spiritual romance.
