Unrequited Monkey Love Poem by Philip Bemelman

Unrequited Monkey Love

From the smallest monkeys, to the greatest apes,
my heart goes soft for these jackanapes.

I love gorillas with their great big hands,
with their human faces without demands.

And chimpansees with their gangly arms,
fiercely loyal as only family warms.

To capuchins with a creamy muzzle,
my thoughts tangle in a fuzzle.

If monkey see is monkey do,
why can't they see my love is true?
