Upset Heart Poem by D.N. Rebb

Upset Heart

Rating: 5.0

Why can't I ever remember your real name?
Your eyes never expressed undeserved blame
Do you remember what we were wearing?
The day I gave you that cheap token ring
What made you laugh so much that day?
I don't even know how I could ever repay
Your generosity, like a cashless Gates donor
Then you disappeared, from you, no one heard
I thought maybe I said something I shouldn't have
And all I wanted to hear was your careless laugh
Whatever demons invaded your sensitivity
I would find them and drown them in the grey sea

I went on a lonely walk the other day
Ran into a grinning Labrador stray
His smile just reminded me of you
He came over and took away all those feelings of blue
I knew I couldn't just take him home
Like you, he was meant to freely roam

I poured two mugs of our favorite tea
Just in case, today, you'd come back for me
Remember how we loved listening to the rain?
I'd learn to rain dance, if that would bring you back again
